1954 VW Deluxe Beetle, Euro Specification with Semaphores, 7” reflector headlights, fluted Bosch lenses, and single blade bumpers, sold new at Competition Motors in California. Modified with 356 Porsche Speedster torsion bars, spring plates, brake drums, wheels, roller bearing front axles, 356 king and link pins, dampener, and steering box. adjustable front end, adjustable Konis, and 19mm front sway bar. 165 Michelin XZX radial tires. New Dual circuit master cylinder, all new ATE wheel cylinders, brake lines, and working 356 parking brake cables. Carrera studs on rear drums with 20mm spacers. Dual port engine, twin Kadron carbs, Vintage Speed linkage, stroker, big bore, 009 distributor, Blue Bosch coil, rebuilt Bosch Alternator, Gene Berg timing pulley, custom Sebring exhaust, new wiring harness, new starter, converted to 12Vt. Semaphores are set up with blinking bulbs, Halogen H4 headlights, LED taillights and brake lights, Porsche 356 running lights converted to blinker bulbs.

This California VW retains its original rust-free floor with original matt snaps, and solid front tire well. Side and rear glass is original with “SEKURIT” logos, the font windshield was replaced and is clear. The car has 20-year-old paint that has just enough patina. Retains original hood crest. The interior has reupholstered vinyl seats and panels. Corbeau driver’s seat with headrest, also included original driver’s seat. Current 3” Simpson driver’s Lap belt, 3” passenger duck bill belt with proper eyebolts thru floors. Mohair headliner, original batwing steering wheel restored by Koch, working original horn button, Kafer Center grill with 8k RPM electronic tach by ISP, VDO Temp gauge, 356 Alloy Steering column clamp, original VW shifter w/super shifter bushings, and 356 knob. Original dash knobs, correct ribbed winders and latches, original visors, coat hook, and grab handles. Webbed package net. Working courtesy lights. New rubber mats with snaps. Current Halotron fire extinguisher, safety secured AGM battery, with external Bosch cut off switch. Spare is a 356 rim with 155 Michelin XZX to fit spare well, with 356 hold down and original leather strap. Complete with original HAZET tools, jack, repair books, and vintage Corbin leather suitcase.

This Competition Motors VW ran a respectable 6 minutes and 30 seconds at Mount Equinox Hillclimb, beating several 356A Porsches.  This VW won a people’s choice award at the 2024 Flanders VW show.  Eligible for the Italian Mille Miglia with either a Porsche engine or a VW engine. This car starts easily, has loads of torque, runs at 65 MPH at 3000 RPM, and can do 100 MPH. 4-wheel performance alignment, lowered with slight rear negative camber. Handles very well.
